How to Make Eleven’s Pizza Glasses from Stranger Things
Here’s a great idea I came up with to make your very own Eleven Stranger Things Costume from Season 4.
In Stranger Things Season 4 Episode 9: The Piggyback, 11 slaps on a pair of protective glasses and takes a dip in a home brewed salt pool in the back of the pizza place.
Here’s a cheap and easy way to make the perfect 11 Stranger Things Costume for cosplay!
For you Eleven Costume, you will need:
- Old school masking tape
- A pizza box
- A safety pin
- A pencil
- A ruler
- Scissors
- Glasses or sunglasses of a certain shape — you can use almost any glasses, but I think a shape like this is pretty good. It comes from Firmoo, and if you buy their sweet, stylish glasses I get a 10% kickback. They have a cool store with lots of nerdy glasses, so think about supporting me by clicking the banner below and supporting a poor writer like me!
Step 1: Get Your Dimensions
Right. So first, you’re going to want to get the right shape for your glasses. Go ahead and measure it out on your ruler and jot it down. You want the length across the front of the face and the length of the legs as well.
So what you’re doing here is drawing the sunglasses flat for now and then bend them later after you’ve cut them out, since it’s basically impossible to trace a 3-D object on a flat surface without snapping your shades.
Step 2: Add Space
Have you got your flat glasses traced out onto your pizza box? Great — don’t cut it yet!
We don’t want to cut out the exact size of the glasses. In some places, the cardboard folds over the glasses to the back, and as you can see below, there is another dimension to the box on the bottom where it blocks out the light (so that 11 can do sensory deprivation stuff in the salt water).
3. Cut it out!
Carefully cut out your pizza box along the dotted line with a pair of scissors.
While we’re on this stage, why don’t you pop out the lenses of your cheap red-rimmed plastic sunglasses. You won’t be needing those.
4. Fold it up!
Next, fold your pizza box along the solid line so it conforms to the shape of your sunglasses. When you’re done with that, fold the dotted line back to get ready for the next step.
5. Tape it shut!
Use your yellow 80s masking tape to tape up your 11 cosplay pizza glasses. If you look at the photo of eleven, you can see where the tape is showing and where it isn’t.
There’s no visible tape along the top of the glasses. That means you’re going to tape them as they are folded around the back.
6. Poke holes!
Eleven needed total darkness to see into the upside-down, but unless you have superpowers of your own, this 11 Stranger Things costume is going to need some way to get the light in.
Here’s what to do.
With a safety pin, poke an army of freckles into the cardboard. These tiny holes won’t be big enough to see from far away, but they’ll be close enough to your eyes that you’ll be able to take in your surroundings.
At the same time, you’re not going to have any peripheral vision, so you’ll be turning your head a lot. Do your self a favor and try to make friends with people who won’t take advantage of this fact by playing mean practical jokes on you.
And this should go without saying, but for fuck’s sake take of the glasses before you start poking holes in them. Near the top of my list of things I don’t need today is for some nitwit to bury a pin in his or her eye while trying to craft an 11 Stranger Things costume that I inspired.
What about the Rest of Eleven’s Outfit?
So that’s how you make 11’s Pizza Glasses from Stranger Things 4. But what about her shirt?
You could spend hours looking through used clothing bins, OR you could check this out: https://www.neatoshop.com/product/1983-el
It’s an Eleven graphic tee featuring Eleven’s torso. It’s an easy solution! Plus, it’s great if you like supporting poor writers, because as an affiliate of neatoshop, I get a small kickback if you buy using that link. Hey, look, I’m just trying to make a living like everyone else.
