The Most Horrible Horror You Can Watch on Netflix
Netflix is the ultimate home for binge-watching the best and worst horror movies. Whether you’re looking for weird, obscure titles or some of the most popular and beloved films from yesteryear, Netflix has got you covered. But with so many different types of horror out there, it can be tough to know where to begin. Fortunately for you, we’ve done the dirty work and compiled a list of the absolute worst horror movies on Netflix.
Savor in peace…
Pretty Bad: ‘Annabelle’
From the very beginning, it was clear that Annabelle was a bad idea. That doll, which is supposed to be possessed by a demon, is supposed to be frightening? It’s just a doll. Not only that, but the movie is so reliant on jump scares that it turns into a different kind of horror altogether.
“Annabelle borrows unabashedly from better horror films, content to leave viewers with a string of cheap jolts that fail to build on the far more effective The Conjuring.”
Rotten Tomatoes
If that wasn’t enough, Annabelle also contains an awkward love story between the protagonist and his sister’s best friend. While the premise for this movie is interesting, Annabelle does a terrible job of bringing its own story to life. It’s not scary, it’s just weird and strange. Avoid.
Hot Trash: ‘Cult of Chucky’
This film marks the second time that the Child’s Play franchise has made it onto this list of the worst horror movies on Netflix. The only good thing about this movie is that it is technically a sequel. The original Child’s Play was a genuinely scary movie that had you on edge for hours. However, the sequel has added no new features to the classic film. Instead, it has just been dumbed down for a younger audience. Cult of Chucky is the epitome of stupid horror. It’s not scary, it’s just dumb. This type of movie is best to watch during a lazy afternoon with friends.
Why, Netflix: ‘Deadly Possessions’ (TV Series, 2016)
This documentary is so bad it’ll make you question your Netflix subscription. Deadly Possessions is not only a bad movie, it’s also boring.
Deadly Possessions is a reality show/documentary, but honestly, Deadly Possessions feels totally staged and forced.
Bottom line, if you’re looking for a documentary to watch with your friends while they eat pizza and drink beer, then Deadly Possessions is a perfect choice. Otherwise, put this one on your “avoid” list.
‘Death Note Black Edition’: The Worst Horror on Netflix?
Death Note Black Edition is DEFINITELY one of the worst horror movies on Netflix. If you’ve ever played with the idea of murdering someone, then this movie is for you. The Death Note Black Edition is one of the worst horror movies on Netflix because it does not just make you think about murdering other people, it also makes you think about murdering yourself.
The original Death Note anime was gripping, tense, and scary. But Death Note Black Edition is honestly trash.
Kuntilianak: Worst Horror on Netflix!
Netflix’s Kuntilianak (2019) might be the worst horror movie I have ever seen. This Indonesian horror movie is so bad I almost threw my TV out the window. But you know what? It was also entertaining. Here’s why.
I like international horror movies, even when they’re bad, because I like seeing how other cultures do things. For example, I learned that Kuntilianak is a mythological creature from Indonesian folklore (and it is found in other cultures, too). In fact, as bad as the Kuntilianak movie was, I researched its mythology and wrote a longer (and more serious) article about it here.
Bottom Line
It’s a scary world out there, and sometimes Netflix is the only place you can feel safe. For horror freaks like yours truly, we feel safer when we can get a good scare in, late at night, with all the lights out.
Unfortunately, these movies are so bad that you’ll still feel safe the whole damn time.
Thanks for reading!
