Andy Messenger Robot

What are the Lyrics to the Commala Song?

Long days and pleasant nights.

One of Andy, Messenger Robot’s many functions is that of the Pied Piper of Hamelin.

In The Dark Tower 5: Wolves of the Calla, Andy, Messenger Robot (many other functions) leads the children of Calla Bryn Sturgis on a march through town. Andy waves a baton around. He sings with the kiddies. This angers the ka-tet.

How cruel Andy must be to sing along with the Calla babbies, marching along with them and waving his baton, knowing the whole time that Andy himself (along with Slightman the elder) will be responsible for making that entire generation roont?

This song (or chant, if that does ya) is a call-and-response. That means the leader (Andy, in this case) calls out the first line, and then the rest chant the next line back to him or her (or in this case, it).

Below are the lyrics, in quotations, excerpted from The Dark Tower V: Wolves of the Calla.

Andy sings the commala come song
Commala Come

Comalla Come Lyrics:

“Commala-come-one! Mamma had a son! Dass-a time ’at Daddy Had d’mos’ fun!

Commala-come-come! Daddy had one! Dass-a time ’at Mommy Had d’mos’ fun!

Commala-come-two! You know what to do! Plant the rice commala, Don’t ye be . . . no . . . foo’!

Commala-come-two! Daddy no foo’! Mommy plant commala cause she know jus’ what to do!

Commala-come-t’ree! You know what t’be! Plant d’rice commala and d’rice’ll make ya free!

Commala-come-t’ree! Rice’ll make ya free! When ya plant the rice commala You know jus’ what to be!

Commala-come-four! River’s at the door!”

Unfortunately, the start of the fourth verse is as much as we’re offered. O discordia!

Looking for the Lyrics to the “Rice Song”?

When Roland Deschain and his ka-tet of the Nineteen and Ninety-Nine come to Calla Bryn Sturgis, Roland dances one hell of a commala. And who can forget Oy of Midworld, barking “thankee” and bowing on two feet?

Below, you can also find the lyrics to the Rice Song, the song Roland danced to.
